A chart that works on a desktop can fail on a phone. Social chart design depends on aggressive focus, large labels, short runtimes, and a composition built for the actual publishing format.

01 Tutorial
Work through the steps in order for a new chart, or use them as a review checklist for an existing animation.
Start in 9:16 for vertical video, 1:1 for square feeds, or 16:9 for YouTube and presentation use. Do not treat cropping as the final production step.
Use a title that states the pattern or question. Add the metric, unit, geography, and time period where the audience needs them.
Show only the categories and periods required for the takeaway. Group minor categories when analytically appropriate, or move them into supporting copy.
Use larger labels, strong contrast, and generous spacing. Keep important content away from platform interface overlays near screen edges.
Make the animation understandable without narration. Give values time to settle and use text captions when context would otherwise be lost.
Add the data source and date in the caption or final frame. Write descriptive post copy so the chart is useful to people who cannot see or play the animation.

04 FAQ
Use 9:16 for Reels and Stories and 1:1 or 4:5 for feed posts. Keep titles and labels inside safe areas where the Instagram interface will not cover them.
Aim for roughly 6–15 seconds for a single insight. Use a longer sequence only when the story genuinely requires multiple periods and the pacing remains readable.
A seamless loop can work for simple reveals, but the beginning and final takeaway must still be clear. Avoid loops that make time direction ambiguous.
